"Fashion fades, Style remains"

Initially, i was a firm believer that over-the-knee boots were one of those trends designed only for the catwalk, that in reality it seemed obscure to bring these hooker style shoes onto the high-street. However, months into the craze and I'm gradually switching teams, so much so i almost purchased a flat pair in the January sales, before then opting for a safer, shorter studded option... I did say gradually!

There is a fine line when dressing the over-the-knee boot between becoming a fashion forward female or a street walking whore, a line even some celebrities are finding it difficult not to cross, a la Heidi Montag, who clearly not only crossed said line but leaped so far over it is no longer even in sight. It is images like this which really put me off the idea of even risking such a failure, but then one must remember that people who actually look in the mirror after getting dressed can pull off the daring trend, like Hilary Duff for instance, a young lady who successfully classed up the boot with a casual dress and legging look.
So the verdict is in, and personally I'm all for a flat over-the-knee paired with either leggings or the spray on skinny jean, however a heeled pair just brings back the not so fond fashion memory of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, a look no woman out of the profession wishes to relive. Overall its a look I would recommend, so long as the necessary precautions are put in place to preven a fashion faux pas...

1. Never pair with any other leather item of clothing, it screams 'Prossie' louder than a fog horn.
2. Ensure you keep clean, simple lines, think skinny jeans or leggings... the fewer the frills the more effective the look.
3. If you are planning on wearing your over-the-knee's with a dress ensure the hemline is slightly above the top of the boot to elongate the leg.
4. If you are on the shorter side of the height spectrum add a heel to the boot and choose a pair no higher than just obove the knee . Also try stying them with a cropped jacked to create the illusion of a longer body.
5. Do not, and i repeat do not purchase a pair that are too tight on the thigh, this can cause any fat to bulge over, a not so alluring look ladies.
6. And finally always look in the mirror before leving the safelty of your humble abode and ask the question 'am i going to get some old and perverted man pulling over to ask my houry service rates?' If the answer is yes... try again!
