2009 has been an interesting year in terms of celebrity style, we've watched as Lady GaGa's gone GooGoo over any item deemed un-wearable by the masses, Madonna's pranced around in even smaller garments than when she was in her 20's and on a rather more positive note, many unexpected fashion IT girls have emerged both across the pond and closer to home bringing fashion a new lease of life.

Taylor Momsen

Taylor is often over looked in the Gossip Girl style wars, what with co-stars Blake and Leighten consistently never failing to put a Louboutin fashioned food wrong. But with a role in of America's hottest teen drama's and a cast closet to die for Momsen seems to have made it, all at just the tender age of 16. Over the past year we've watched Taylor's style mature into an edgy, well constructed trend of her own with a prominent twist of individuality. I have a feeling that this young starlet's career is only just beginning to blossom, and similarly so is her style.

Lily Allen This lady has come a long way from the party dress and trainer collaboration, the symbolic style statement our very own princess of pop initiated alongside her successful career. 2009 seemed to be the year that Lily Allen decided to develop into a mature individual, and of course her fashion followed swiftly behind. Not only did she make an appearance at Chanel's Spring collection catwalk in Paris, but she also starred in their classically produced yet true to character add campaign, a privilege not many can say they have experienced. This year has been the year that Allen has removed herself from many worst-dressed lists and even placed herself on a few best-dressed, and I think this trend is only to continue into 2010 as she discovers what truly suits and flatters her image.

RihannaRihanna has encountered a lot over the past twelve months, so much so that it may have destroyed any less of an individual, but not this determined young singer. She has bounced back with such a force that it wasn't just the music industry that felt the tremors, no Rihanna's shocking style has introduced her to an entirely new type of recognition, one as an influential style symbol- think Lady Gaga with a touch of class. At 21 years of age, and a career which seems indestructible, this inspirational girl is becoming a woman, a well dressed, dangerously stylish woman, who isn't afraid to express her individuality through fashion.

Olivia PalermoKnown over here for here role in 'the Hill's' spin of show 'the City' Olivia Palermo's character has come under somewhat scrutiny of recent, however the more we see of her, be it on our screen's or in our magazine's, the less we focus on her slightly severe, career climbing behaviour and the more we devote our attention to her impeccable clothing collection. This unexpected American socialite seems to have stolen our fashion hearts with her classic style and ability to co-ordinate. Throughout 2009 Olivia and her flawlessly finished style has wormed her way in amongst the fashion elite to claim her crown.

Jessica Stroup

Stroup's career truly kicked off last year with her landing a role in the his US drama 90210, and since then her sense of style has began to develop from playschool preppy into a slightly more adult, rock chic. Not one known particularly well for her attire over here, Stroup has slipped under our fashion radar. A mistake i truly hope can be corrected in 2010 as she is fast joining the Olsen twin grunge trend that just fails to work on any individual simply not famous. With a nudge in the right direction and the coverage needed for that true iconic recognition Stroup could emerge the best dressed amongst her designer clad co-stars this year.
